Hyde who provided both text and photographs for this book was engaged in the engineering profession for many years, and has been keenly interested in natural history from boyhood. He is the author of a number of books, and has contributed to many well known encyclopedias and magazines. He has a special interest in insects belonging to different orders, and is familiar with the life histories of many species. His photographs of butterflies and other insects are well known in this country and abroad.
